My visit today was mainly in the name of Chanel, the Little Black Jacket exhibition to be precise, created by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld - a perfect combination of 'felds.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It was a lesson in the many ways to wear a Black Jacket; a guide to who's who in fashion/music/art/film; a look at Chanel's unfailing appeal... to everyone.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It's free, and surprisingly large, covering the vast majority of the first floor, plus there's a complimentary poster for every visitor. (You choose from three different ones, Georgia May Jagger's pile was significantly smaller than the other two options, as you can see from the picture... someone is clearly miss popular!).
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As I walked round I tried to choose a favourite, but I just couldn't, there's so many amazing variations on the theme. Here's all the potentials...
In past seasons, living in Liverpool, I've crammed LFW into a day, and thus worn a practical outfit... now though, times have changed! <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The dress came as a surprising acquisition on Saturday, when I found a freelance stylist selling off samples and old season pieces from shoots. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">On Monday we went to the zoo, obviously not a fashion parade, but still, I wasn't going to whip the wellies and waterproofs out, especially since it was cracking the flags.That presented it's own problem though, as I'd packed for subzero temperatures... After a minor panic I reluctantly wore the neon pink vest I'd thrown in for slobbing around instead of my oversized jumper and despite protestations from the other two, kept with the leather pants I'd planned. I finished off with my gold and black chunky necklace to make me feel slightly more dressed up, but I still felt like one of Jessie J's backing dancers. Meanwhile, unlike me, (<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">see previous post<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">) Ruth and Francesca both like shorts, so went for the denims. Both were laughing until the sun went in and they finished up with cold legs - cue Ruth's line of the holiday "It'll be fine when that cloud moves". Then there was the penguins who particularly enjoyed soaking and nibbling at Ruth's many tassels, such an impractical top for the zoo, but it did look fab.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Fran had trouser issues today. Major trouser issues. The plan for the day was shopping/drinks/dinner/drinks all without going back home, which therefore called for one multipurpose outfit. After my outfit crisis yesterday, this morning it was Fran's turn as she debated between a dress and leather pants. As you can see, she went for the leathers, then spent all day wishing she hadn't. I had little sympathy since I'd survived in mine yesterday, and mine are tighter! Poor Fran though, she finished the day buying a pair of leggings, which she went on to wear back to front and complete with all the sticky labels - those trousers really messed with her head. Ruth once again decided to show off her sparkly sensible shoes today - she's definitely just rubbing it in because I'm still on my sensible shoes mission - and paired them with monochrome patterned jeans and a sheer black blouse. I meanwhile reverted completely to my city girl ways in peplum Dalmatian top, skinny black pants and a blazer. We were shopping and drinking cocktails after all, so I did have an excuse!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Today was our last day *sob*, so outfits had to be suitable for the arduous journey home (all 2 hours and 2 trains). Scarred by yesterdays drama, Fran went for comfort in leggings and a jumper and her favourite boots. A good decision, she was much happier today, or maybe that was down to the 'fruity curry' - ask her. I went casual (by my standards) in jeans, with a blouse and blazer and added a necklace I picked up in the sale in Outfit for £2. I did spend all day claiming I looked like the Pat Butcher of the necklace world though; its just very gold and bling. Last night I'd announced while scrolling down Twitter, that Vivienne Westwood is opening her first Welsh store in Cardiff in the near future. Perhaps it was in honour, or perhaps it was just coincidence, but Ruth decided on being a walking advert for Dame Viv today, teaming a snakeskin vest and jeans with Viv shoes, bag and earrings.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So that was that, we survived, how do you think we did!?
Spain (Shorts and Hats)<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I broke tradition this year and went on holiday to Spain instead of France, I know, shocker.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">To add to the shocks, whilst there I decided I would attempt 'shorts'.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now a lot of people know how I feel about shorts; we do not have a good relationship at all... In fact, I see them as spawn of the devil, it's really that bad. They do nothing for me, therefore why should I feel any affection for them? With my broad shoulders it seems that shorts serve only make me look very disproportionate, plus I can't bear this trend for shorts so short that half your bum is on show - not fun.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">But then I came across a pair of black, high-waisted, tailored shorts in the sale in H&M, seen in both pictures below. Ever one for a bit of tailoring, and as they were cheaper than an M&S Hoisin Duck Wrap, I decided to push the boat out and give them a go.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">And I have to say I grew to quite like them. Protocol stated that for relaxed holiday meals, one wears sandals, so I did, though I'm still convinced they made me look a bit vertically-challenged. On my return home then, I braved the shorts once more (much to the surprise of my friends) this time with heels and I have to say I liked them even more!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As for being out of proportion, a high necked top just made it even more extreme, but I'm good with that. I often find myself making the hench shoulders look even wider, and it seems that's how shorts have to work for me - now there's a revelation!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">That said, I was comforted by the knowledge my shorts were probably some of the least offensive in Spain. One thing I learnt, is that Spanish men wear the shortest swimshorts I have ever seen. By short I mean like indecent, due to their rolled-up-with-excess-fabric-tucked-under nature. They are most often canary hued or failing that, neon orange, lime green or lilac. Their wearers strut along with slightly too much confidence, as though they're some exotic birds of paradise, in groups of varying numbers and often colour co-ordinating. I couldn't help thinking it just wasn't something you would ever see in the UK and though maybe not for the right reasons, I stared.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Anyway, having overcome the shorts obstacle, we had another one to tackle. My mother had decreed that the climate of this particular region of Spain necessitated a hat... Let's get this clear, I don't wear hats, much as I would like to, for the simple reason that they just look absolutely ridiculous on me! I discovered how to make shorts work for me, but in all honesty, it just wasn't possible to work a hat as you can see from the picture below. I do like the hat, picked up on a 5 minute hat-buying-mission in the sales, but it is just daft and I do look soft. (Note the denim shorts though!)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So, what have I learnt from a foray into the scary worlds of Spain, Hats and Shorts?
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">1. Spanish men look hilarious in their swimshorts.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">2. It is in fact possible for me to wear shorts, with heels, in an extremely out-of-proportion way.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">3. I still can't wear hats; I only wore this because it was so big, you couldn't see it was me. Hannah Ramsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16296801998034048291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006249745863478491.post-17300438242828564442012-08-29T23:03:00.001+01:002012-08-29T23:04:42.763+01:00FD: Wednesday 29th August - A Midi Experiment<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We've all seen and read about ladylike trends, most of which I love - everyone knows I'm a sucker for a cropped jacket or a stiletto. But then there's this trend for midi skirts... I'm good with midi length, on a pencil skirt; it's fitted and flattering, but voluminous? I wasn't so sure.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This evening then I dug out my longest, most voluminous skirt (excluding obviously full on maxis!) and played guinea pig as I went out for dinner, all in the name of blogging. Dedication much?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Skirt, as you can see in the picture, is, technically speaking, more knee-length than midi, but it still felt very long indeed, hence the heels. I figured ankle boots might serve to be slightly 'tougher' than shoes, though I still felt a bit like an off duty ballerina, probably not helped by my choice of nude beaded cami to tuck in. In an attempt to find my waist, I added a belt and finished the whole thing with my new boucle jacket (a bit like a safety blanket in this scary voluminous world, and obviously my favourite part of the look).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So what do we think? I'm still undecided so do share your opinion - Midi good or midi bad?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This week then, I paid a visit to the first of two bridal shoots that Kirsty, her team of interns and photographer sister, Jessica, are doing to promote the new service...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">With the need for a grand backdrop, the first of two locations used was the Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery, complete with its sweeping staircases, marble columns and, of course, tourists with cameras.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">In the afternoon, activity moved to the beautiful former Martin's Bank building on Water Street. I might have lived here all my life, but I honestly had no idea it existed! Inside it was practically untouched; I imagine on the day it shut for business, the cashiers packed up their things and left, and that's how it is now. Despite its practical-ness, it has the obligatory pillars and some very intricate floors and ceilings, but still, you may wonder why you'd find a bride in a bank.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This wasn't any conventional wedding shoot though, as this is no conventional wedding collection. Having made her name with origami folds, striking silhouettes and innovative draping, Kirsty wasn't about to start churning out multiple meringues with bejewelled corsets... We'll leave that to Thelma. (Who I do love too by the way... just not in the same way!)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Instead, the pieces I saw were refreshingly different, and in some of them, the only real hint of 'wedding' was their white-ness. There were dramatic frills, but these were pared down with simple silk vests; sleek column skirts were teamed with sculptural tops; and structured short skirts were toughened up with black accents.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">To find out the inspiration behind the collection, I spoke to Kerry and Georgina, two of Kirsty's newly recruited interns,who have been working on the design and manufacture of the pieces. They said that initally they researched both iconic dresses and iconic women, think Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys, then looked at the silhouettes and tried to turn these into wearable wedding pieces.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Breaking the tradition of hats being only reserved for guests, Kirsty teamed her designs with headgear from milliner Laura Apsit Livens, who had created some pieces specially for the shoot. Included in the selection were creations with flowers, feathers and shapes that echoed those of the dresses, as well as others made of plastic. Check back on Parade for more on Laura soon...

Zoe and Charlotte too have been interning, but they've been working in PR and Marketing. They told me the interest surrounding this shoot and Kirsty's new service in general has been huge; local press and websites are calling for interviews and Bay TV came to the shoot to film a sneak preview video which you can see here.

And its no surprise really, this is a capsule collection of pieces for an avant-garde bride who dares to be different, and Kirsty promises that they can change colours, details etc. on these to meet their exact specifications or alternatively work with her to create a completely unique design if that's what they fancy. What more could a modern day bride want?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">P.s. I shall let you know when the final images are released!Hannah Ramsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16296801998034048291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006249745863478491.post-65067314597259007522012-07-16T22:36:00.000+01:002012-07-16T22:40:37.783+01:00New on Benna.co.uk... Shourouk<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I'm supposed to be looking for 'sensible', 'practical' and 'flat' shoes at the minute, to wear for popping around London in September. I'm not enjoying this process, as I don't enjoy shoes that fit into any of those categories - you know how it is! As my search is going on, I'm beginning to see that the only way round this shoe dilemma is to go leopard, or gold, or better still, sparkly.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">But I seem to be getting distracted by other, far more exciting sparkly things... Things that go by the name of Shourouk, and are the latest arrivals to Benna.co.uk.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Since starting up her own label, Shourouk Rhaiem's designs have become must haves for the likes of Anna Dello Russo and Lady Gaga for their slightly OTT fabulousness and having worked for Galliano and Cavalli, their influences are clear to see. The jewels are dramatic, ornate and very sparkly, but that said, combined with the rope of casual friendship bracelets and chunky metal chains, they seem effortlessly cool and easy to wear.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It was a red soled pilgrimage in the name of #LoubiLove (I have killed that hashtag in the last couple of days), and Christian Louboutin's 20 year retrospective certainly didn't disappoint.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The excitement began with the installation outside, which naturally I had to be snapped standing in front of.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It then continued when you got in and scaled the staircase, shoes hanging in hoops all the way to the top... Eep!<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Anyone who knows me well would know that I always had a bit of a thing for carousels when I was younger, and in all honesty, I still do now... Imagine my delight then, when, on entry, I found myself greeted by a revolving carousel complete with pairs of Loubis on cushioned swings!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Others were standing on gold sole-shaped plinths, in sparkly cabinet-y things and some were around a central island, at the end of which was a fabulous sparkly hologram of Dita Von Teese and some equally sparkly shoes, obviously.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Anecdotes were dotted around the walls and dinky plaques named and dated the styles, some of which went right back, back to a time before I even knew what a red sole meant.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I wondered if you'd be able to touch the shoes, but a reliable fashion source informed me prior to departure that such a crime would mean being arrested by the 'Loubi Police'. In my mind that didn't sound all that bad, except she then said they weren't hot French men in spiked loubis...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">And she was right, they were small English men in black polo shirts, their backs branded with 'design museum' and no, they weren't all flashing red soles as they walked - Shame!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Nevertheless, it made it all that much more exciting, those perfect beauties untouched by mucky paws, and yes, I did press my face up against the glass like an excitable kid. It was all the little details that made the viewing experience more pleasurable I think; a mirror behind each pair to see the sole or a golden shell with a lightbulb to make the strass crystals sparkle; the aforementioned central island/seating area combo in the ubiquitous sole shape; the fact everywhere was just red and/or sparkly.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The curtained-off 'Fetish Room' contained the shoes Louboutin created for a photoshoot with David Lynch, and the accompanying photos. Though they obviously weren't designed to be worn day to day, these scary, slightly perverse and almost disturbing Loubis were still jaw-droppingly beautiful. The man is a genius.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Then there was Christian's atelier - a fantastical creative mess of a room, the walls covered in images depicting the space that he (and at some point, I) works in, and a central perspex box filled with shoes boxes, sketches, coffee cups, pens, leather, books and pictures. I could have stayed there for hours, examining coffee stains on paper and admiring some very shiny mens Loubis, if it weren't for the jolly music I could hear in the next room...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The jolly music was in fact a film or three, created by Louboutin, documenting his life story, and showing his general penchant for all things a bit crazy. It was amusing, glamorous and a bit cute, plus Mr Loubi shows us that "he's a good little mover".

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Those were the words of accompanying friend who I'd dragged along for the London roadtrip, a friend who didn't understand the fuss I'd made and continue to make, over my shoes (Yes, we are still friends, promise!). But even she, by the end of this indulgent 2 hours, had conceded that it was better than she'd expected and could almost understand what the fuss was about. - See, it was that good!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I think I'd scared her by saying it was small, ie. there would be a few pairs of shoes and I'd just oo and ahh. It was quite small I suppose, but as they say, big things come in small packages, and I did coo over the shoes like they were newborn babies... But so did she, especially over anything lacy and crystal encrusted.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So Mr Louboutin, if your aim was to amaze, provide a little bit of indulgence and allow #LoubiLovers to reminisce, you've certainly succeeded. But if it was also to spread the #LoubiLove <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">and convert non-believers into #LoubiLovers, I think that might have happened too...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">P.S.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Organising prom has also been a cause of distraction from here so it seems fitting to theme an outfit post around that.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Having bought my dress at the end of last year, that was the least of my worries in the run up to the event. Instead I found myself to be more concerned by ivy and fairylights and roses and candlesticks. This all led to a rather uncharacteristically disorganised dash around town the day before, yes the day before, to locate a belt and jewellery.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Somehow I finished up with a bit of a deco/grecian fusion going on...
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It seems though that plunging black dresses and gold accessories are a bit of a trend this week.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Sharon Stone was spotted arriving at Christian Dior HQ in Paris on Monday for Paris Couture Week, wearing an outfit that, dare I say, was similar to mine. At first glance even more so, until I scrolled down and saw her dress wasn't full length, plus I didn't wear sunnies or red lippy, which I must admit look amazing on her. (I did have red nails, but no lippy as I didn't want to look like I was trying to match my soles, if you catch my drift?)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I'd love to say she copied off me, but in reality I can't claim to be friends with Ms. Stone, so it looks like it'll just have to be a stylish coincidence... Shame!

P.S. There should be pictures of the aforementioned fashion show floating about somewhere; when I track them down, I'll pop them on here.Hannah Ramsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16296801998034048291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006249745863478491.post-88065572942849662752012-05-08T20:20:00.000+01:002012-05-08T22:07:04.406+01:00FD - Tuesday 8th May: The Orange Saga continues...<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">After the reaction I've had to the 'orange' post, I've decided to continue the saga some more...
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">A few people have asked me for pictures of 'the' outfit, and aside from a very informal one taken in the mirror on my phone (sent to friend to check I looked presentable before I left the house), I don't actually have any.
This is because this week, I've taken a few fashion risks...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Many will know that generally my clothes/shoes are black/high and my makeup subtle - but oh no, not this week. This week I went positively wild...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It all started last Saturday when I fancied livening up my work outfit. I'd bought these shoes, that yes I'm wearing today, a couple of years ago for a wedding and hadn't worn them since, because while I like them, I find them somewhat complicated to wear. To describe them they sound awful - pointy, snakeskin and with a not particularly high, pink metallic heel, but honestly they're better in the flesh. The thing that scares me however is that they're very pale in colour, almost ecru - I refuse to say white, and nude is about as pale as I'll go normally. Don't get me wrong though, they're definitely not kittens - that would be fashion suicide let alone a fashion disaster - and they are Kurt Geiger. But I've seen a lot of mid-height heels around lately and think they look instantly French and very chic with skinny pants or jeans with a turn up, as I've done today. Somehow though, for the reasons described above, they still scare me.
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The second risk then came about that same night while I was watching The Voice. I have an occasional penchant for orange clothes and suddenly decided I needed Jessie J's orange lippy. Having tracked down her make up artist on Twitter and found the name of it, found myself in MAC on Sunday morning asking for 'Jessie J's lippy please' - Morange F.Y.I.

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As a result I've found myself walking round with a bright orange pout all week. Some people have remarked it looks red, others coral; a lot just stare then say "Is that lipstick orange?".
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">T<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">he final, and possibly most major risk came on Thursday night, when I had two very contrasting events to attend, the launch of Amanda Harrington and Debbie and Gill O'Toole's 'Scouse Boutique' and Matt Ford and Dot Art's 'Art Show'. The mere putting together of both events in one sentence presented me with possibly the biggest fashion conundrum I've ever had to deal with. I gathered Scouse Boutique would be scouse and over the top, while The Art Show would be well, arty and cool. There was no way I could dress to please both... Or was there?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Cue the arrival of the orange trousers.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As if wandering round with orange lips all week wasn't enough, I decided to try out orange legs - with no fake tan involved may I add. By orange trousers, I mean properly tailored, high waisted, fairly wide legged pants with 4 little gold buttons up the side in a bright, bright orange. Not terracotta, not tangerine; orange, in the most literal sense of the word. I bought them in Zara almost a year ago and can honestly say I'd never found an occasion quite right for them, but Thursday seemed like just the day to debut them: loud enough for Scouse Boutique, original enough for The Art Show. I paired them with a vintage black and orange printed blouse, black heels and bag, and a huge gold necklace, not forgetting a slick of Morange of course.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Wearing them I felt conspicuous, they certainly weren't suitable attire for voting, but somehow I felt a bit empowered - almost like I must have looked brave to have worn them, even though I spent all night thinking "oh my goodness I'm walking round in bright orange trousers".

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So what can I conclude from this week? I do love orange, both in lipstick and trouser form. And the shoes? I do like them too, but it might take me a few more wears yet before I feel completely happy in them.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">As for 'really high fashion' vs. 'complete fashion disaster', I would like to think I had enough self respect and fashion nous to not resemble the latter but I shan't put my neck on the line just yet...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">P.S. If anyone has seen me in any of the three risky examples, please let me know your thoughts...Hannah Ramsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16296801998034048291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006249745863478491.post-49643213395678302832012-04-12T21:59:00.001+01:002012-04-12T22:13:05.734+01:00FD - 12th April 2012 - Fab in Fuchsia<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I never thought I would say this, ever, but today I thought Coleen Rooney looked fabulous.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It was 'Liverpool Day', at Aintree Races today and while we saw the first day of racing, Coleen also revealed her first outfit from this years races wardrobe... And for her striking Roksanda Illincic dress, I am welcoming Coleen onto Parade with open arms!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I love the colour of her dress, it's just the right side of neon, the belt is a good touch and obviously I'm not going to argue with any Louboutins...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The big hair and the big sleeves are admittedly very scouse, but I think she's managed to keep it classy.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So while some prepare to get it very wrong tomorrow (Don't say I'm being harsh, I said some, and check last years pics for evidence!), I'll wait and see with baited breath if I'll be singing Mrs Rooney's praises again on Parade tomorrow after Ladies Day... If this is anything to go by, I'm scared I might actually be doing so!

Here's why...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">If you're friends with me on Facebook, you will know I'm regularly 'London-bound'. My last post about Milan was written on a train to London and the manic fortnight that started with LFW meant 5 separate trips to the capital.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I have found train journeys to be very productive times however and have written lots of things for the fab His & Hers mag over the past month, on a Virgin Pendelino of course, which can all be found in the current spring fashion issue. You can pick a copy up from the L1 visitor centre if you haven't already, or you could take a look at the online version, found on the website, here, before the new issue comes out in April.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I've also managed to get a Uni place in this time, Fashion Management at London College of Fashion, so with any luck, as of September, I will be relocating down south... excited isn't the word! I'm not going alone though, one of my friends is also joining me on the move and apparently we are the first people to get into LCF from our school, ever. Get. us. To celebrate we will be visiting Mahiki, as we said we would if we got in. Now what does one wear for that? You can be sure of a post about that nearer the time...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Aside from Mahiki, I never knew it was possible to get quite so excited about kettles, toasters, towel bales and bedsets. But trust me it is. If I'm online shopping now, I seem to find that my basket isn't just full of shoes, but scouring brushes and shoes, or soap dispensers and shoes. I have already set my colour schemes for kitchen, bathroom and bedroom , so soon I'm scared I'll find myself dressing to co-ordinate. Who's to say an artfully draped shower curtain couldn't pass as a couture dress?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I'll let you know how that one goes...
Hannah Ramsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16296801998034048291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006249745863478491.post-77841075307491573342012-02-21T10:27:00.002+00:002012-02-21T10:30:11.805+00:0012 Milanese Observations
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">With the fourth City, Milan, having been ticked off on my list of 'Fashion Capitals To Visit', here are 12 things that I noticed and loved about the place...
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">
Over the last few days though, local press have been going mad over our recent visit from Italian Vogue journalists and, more importantly, their new found love for our very own city.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I met Fashion Editor Stefania Cubello last Monday, and lovely as she was then, I don't think anyone expected them to love the idea of girls in rollers quite so much. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The group also met with designer Kirsty Doyle, handbag experts Nook&Willow and Cricket owner, Justine Mills, and by the sounds of it, they couldn't have been more suprised and impressed by what they found here.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We all know that as a city, our fashion confidence is as sky high as our heels, and it was that very thing that they loved the most. Stefania said, “A lot of young women in Milan tend to dress the same, and I think that is true of London as well, but in Liverpool I saw a lot of girls and women who really had their own very unique style.”

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The city still abuzz about getting the seal of approval from Vogue Italia, BBC Radio Merseyside's Sean Styles decided on a fashion-themed show this morning, on which Justine Mills and I were interviewed about Liverpool style, 'The Visit' and proving that there's more to us than fake tan and rollers!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">If you missed the show, you can catch it again on BBC iPlayer, <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">here<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Justine is on at 27 minutes, me at 32, and may I forewarn you of a unusually strong scouse accent I appear to have adopted. I was obviously just being loyal to my city...

Only time will tell if the stylish Milanese decide to adopt the roller-girl style, but for now, such compliments are just a great accolade for the city and get us one step closer towards appearing on the map as a Fashion Capital.
P.S. Speaking of fashion capitals, exactly three weeks today I'll be in Milan, the fourth tick on my mission to visit all the fashion capitals - aaaaaaah!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Describing herself as a 'Fibre Artist', Silvia Beccaria uses materials such as latex, plastic and rubber, woven on a traditional loom, to create bold, eye-catching ruffs and collars. I love her use of colour, and the entirely different look that is created by using non-fabric textures, plus they're huge and sculptural (which we know I love). This jewellery is exciting, and this designer is going places, watch this space...

What an amazing 2011 in Fashion... Roll on 2012.
Hannah Ramsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16296801998034048291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6006249745863478491.post-13784126870881786052011-12-24T22:51:00.002+00:002012-01-25T22:48:08.825+00:00The Loubis<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I don't suppose that anyone, least of all me, expected it to be so long before The Loubis made an appearance on Parade! I'll blame it on far too many birthday celebrations and use tonight, the eve of their 3rd outing as an opportunity to formally introduce them, just for those who haven't already been forced to bow down to and/or stroke them...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Even my introductory paragraph sounds a bit psycho, and it's safe to say I'm a little obsessed with these shoes, probably too obsessed. If I'm like this now, you should have seen me the day before and on the day of purchase. (For those who did, retrospectively, I'm sorry.)

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I can't say I slept on the night of the 11th... remember the blog post? Click here to read it again, all two sentences of it. I described it to someone as "pre-wedding jitters"; I'd been planning it forever, I was definitely going to go through with it, but wow was I nervous. They laughed at me, and I wasn't really surprised. 'Nervous' isn't a feeling that would naturally be associated with shoe-buying, is it? But I was, really badly! I think I was worried because I'd built up this whole event to be something so great, what if it went badly wrong? What if there was nothing in my size? Nothing I liked? Well obviously I was going to like the whole shop, but what if there was nothing that fitted my 'classic and black' bill? I was dragging my whole family and godparents to Paris, to buy a pair of shoes. There was a lot riding on it, and me being stubborn as, I certainly wasn't going to accept defeat and make the purchase in Selfridges or even Cricket.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Having had 3 hours sleep, read an article about Mr Louboutin in the paper and had another minor nervy b, I found myself sat on an easyjet, wondering what the purposes of everybody elses journeys were. I didn't think anyone was off to buy Louboutins from the flagship store in Paris, family in tow, but I may well be wrong!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We landed, faffed around, got trains, buses, walked, got lost, got distracted, had mini breakdowns and eventually found our way to the hotel by about 12.30pm - too late for my liking. Can't say I remember much of the morning, it was far too much of a tired, overexcited, nervous blur. A lunch followed, a lunch I struggled to eat, as Loubi o'clock was getting closer...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I then took it upon myself to navigate towards the shop. Except I didn't, and when close to throwing up/passing out, I handed the reins to the father, who made it there before me. If I wasn't in such a state, I'd have been really annoyed, but in all honesty I was just thankful to find the place the right side of midnight.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">There was a queue, with a very efficient system of 'one in, one out', there were 4 sales assistants, thus only ever 4 Loubi buyers in the shop at any one time... We got in said queue and waited maybe 20 minutes? (Felt like about 3 hours, I was shaking by this point.) The majority of people who entered the shop came out with a bag or three it should be noted, bags at which every queue-er, including me, fully stared at as they walked past...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Once in the shop, it wasn't at all like we expected it to be, in a really, really good way. I think deep down we expected it to be hostile, the shop assistants snooty, the displays untouchable. Instead, our monsieur was so friendly, helpful and had the patience of an actual saint - handy when I spent well over an hour trying on in excess of 20 pairs. And yes I wandered round in my bare feet, albeit with my beautiful gel nails, and moved shoes off displays without getting a slapped wrist. They didn't follow me round with a duster and suck endless lemons, rather they laughed at my accent and sung happy birthday to me in english. <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The brown paper box and bag aren't perfect, there's a dint in the box and a bag handle is loose, but I strangely don't mind, makes it all seem a whole lot less pretentious.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So I eventually decided on a pair. Now let's get this clear, I went to Paris saying 'No patent, and no slingback' What did I come back with? Patent Slingbacks... I said it was like having a child, you hope for a girl and have a boy, but you still love them regardless! Another ridiculous comparison I know, but it didn't half sum it up... I tried on all the pairs I'd seen on the website but plain leather was too drab, my british feet were way too wide for Pigalle and peep toe was just a definite no no.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now I'd never seen mine before, anywhere, not in a boutique (and I've been to a lot), and not online. I still haven't, but he brought them out the back for me to try and we all knew they were 'the ones'. Classic enough for pencil skirt days, yet still party-y enough for partying. Fab-u-lous!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Decision made, the mother paid (and does she not deserve a medal?!) and out we went, ready for the next lucky person to go in. I managed to maintain my dignity whilst I carried my bag past the (now even longer) queue of people, who all stared at it, just as I'd done a couple of hours previously, until I got round the corner...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Where I jumped up and down and squealed in a most un-classy manner! Didn't care I had my Loubis. Whipped them out in the cafe to show dad and godfather, whipped them out in the hotel to check they still fitted (they actually didn't, I'd walked so far that my customary 'Cankles' and fat feet had appeared, oops) and stored them safely in the safe, until their journey home.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Day 2 then of the Paris trip is, frankly, completely irrelevant as it doesn't involve the Loubis, I just floated round in a bubble of happiness. Except for perhaps the flight home, where I hugged them. I got some funny looks, but did I care? Nope!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now I honestly can't say I've stopped going on about them since November, nor have they left the pillow on the other side of my bed... Somebody said to me the other day " Hannah Ramsay? Are you the one with the Christian Louboutin shoes?" David, if you're reading this thank you again!.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">To conclude... I love the Louboutins, and the mother says yes to another pair from Paris for my 21st... Enjoy the peace until then!
