Lee McQueen 1969 - 2010

The fashion world lost a true icon last week when Alexander McQueen designer, Lee McQueen was found dead at his home.

No one could have predicted McQueen's untimely passing just weeks before his latest collection was due to be shown at Fashion Week, not least those working behind the brand. Labelled "L'enfant Terrible" and "the hooligan of British fashion", McQueen can be credited with a decade of hipster-trouser-wearing, making "outrageous" acceptable in society and creating the iconic Skull Scarf which still reigns supreme today, alongside a host of official awards.

A fan of Alexander McQueen since I was old enough to know who he was, A/W08 was my favourite of all his collections, the beautiful draping, rich colours and luxurious fabric.

And when Lady Gaga stepped out in the video for Bad Romance in McQueen's Armadillo shoes, I think I actually squealed.

PPR, Alexander McQueen's parent company has suggested that the brand will continue without its original designer as it is "the best tribute they could give him". Let's hope so.

He had a vision, he didn't care what anyone else thought, he was a creative genius and will be sorely missed.

FD - Saturday 6th February 2010 - Lady GaGa

Lady GaGa in 18 days! - *breathe* I am too excited to see this woman in the flesh, she is just one of those people that you can't imagine off the television or printed on a page. And nothing will ever beat Lady GaGa meeting The Queen at the Royal Variety Performance in that red pvc costume! Of course I am eagerly ancticipating what outrageous fashion she'll be parading, my guess is that we'll see a fair bit of Alexander McQueen after the fabulous shoe boots in the video for Bad Romance and probably some light up creation similar to her Grammy's outfit, rumoured to be Armani. Oh yes, and i'm really really hoping she sings my favourite song, "speechless" (Ha! The irony) on a red piano suspended 20 feet above the ground.

With her outfits taken care of somewhere else though, there is the next pressing issue of what my friend and I should wear. I will admit now that my outfit was sorted out maybe a month ago, see, I don't like to leave planning such important outfits til the last minute - You can't exactly go and see Lady GaGa wearing jeans and a t-shirt can you? Not that I ever actually wear jeans and a t-shirt anyway but still it's definitely worth the effort! Without giving too much away - te he - my outfit involves sparkly bra, fabulous necklace and my amazing pink shoes, but what goes with it will be revealed later! I'm taking my poor innocent victim of a friend shopping today to get her a suitable outift so she doesn't look, in her own words "a tramp next to you!" Wish her luck, should have seen her face when I suggested sequinned hotpants!
