Lee McQueen 1969 - 2010

The fashion world lost a true icon last week when Alexander McQueen designer, Lee McQueen was found dead at his home.

No one could have predicted McQueen's untimely passing just weeks before his latest collection was due to be shown at Fashion Week, not least those working behind the brand. Labelled "L'enfant Terrible" and "the hooligan of British fashion", McQueen can be credited with a decade of hipster-trouser-wearing, making "outrageous" acceptable in society and creating the iconic Skull Scarf which still reigns supreme today, alongside a host of official awards.

A fan of Alexander McQueen since I was old enough to know who he was, A/W08 was my favourite of all his collections, the beautiful draping, rich colours and luxurious fabric.

And when Lady Gaga stepped out in the video for Bad Romance in McQueen's Armadillo shoes, I think I actually squealed.

PPR, Alexander McQueen's parent company has suggested that the brand will continue without its original designer as it is "the best tribute they could give him". Let's hope so.

He had a vision, he didn't care what anyone else thought, he was a creative genius and will be sorely missed.
